Meet the Neighbors – Aurora ICE Detention Center – GSUS

Request from organizers:

Organizers from the General Strike US have requested that everyone bring something that lights up, such as a flashlight, headlamp, glowsticks, photography lights, party lights etc. This vigil will be taking place at sunset and ending in the dark. The request is not only to make a night time gathering safer, but because this vigil is meant to both symbolically and literally shine a spotlight on the abuses that are happening inside that facility.

The Jeanette Vizguerra Vigils

Every Monday from 6PM – 8PM, various organizations volunteer to host the weekly vigil for Jeanette Vizguerra. Jeanette has been a leader and organizer in immigrant rights activism for decades and was named one of TIME magazines 100 most influential people during Donald Trump’s last term in office. She was arrested by ICE in February, and at the time our senators, the mayor of Denver, and governor Jared Polis spoke openly about her arrest being a targeted political attack on Colorado. Since her arrest, this vigil in its various incarnations has continued every single Monday. Even if you do not make this specific vigil, you should attend one yourself on any Monday.

“We’ve voted, we’ve protested, and still, they ignore us. Our government refuses to meet our basic needs while the billionaire class hoards wealth and power. The General Strike is a decentralized network of regular people who know our greatest power is our labor and our right to refuse it. We aim to unite every person and organization fighting for racial, economic, and environmental justice so that together, we can see real change in our lifetimes.”

My family and I were at Kings 2 Protest in Parker, CO on 10/18 on Main st and Parker rd. We easily had 250-300 people there. 4 other intersections on Parker rd also had protesters. Do not know their numbers. We had considerable, enthusiastic, consistent support from the folks driving by. Easily in the many hundreds of cars / passengers supporting the protest. I do not think that number, those supporters get enough attention. It pushes the real number of supporters up significantly. Just hard to count. See you this Monday, 19/27, at aurora ice detention facility protest.
